All-on-6

A fixed full-arch bridge supported by six implants spread along the jaw — one of the treatment options for a toothless jaw or teeth that can no longer be saved.

What is All-on-6?

All-on-6 is a concept in which a full arch of teeth is replaced with a fixed bridge attached to six implants. As with All-on-4, the bridge is not removed at home — it is cleaned in the mouth, and the dentist removes it at check-ups when needed.

The difference lies in the number and layout of supports. Six implants are spread along the whole arch, so chewing forces are shared between more points. This matters particularly for patients with a strong bite or a longer dental arch, where more supports can contribute to the stability of the restoration.

A fixed restoration on six implants can be one of the treatment options when anatomical, functional and prosthetic conditions allow such a plan. The decision depends on anatomy, bone quantity and quality, implant distribution, load and bite, the prosthetic plan and other factors.

All-on-4

Who it is for

Who is All-on-6 for?

We most often consider All-on-6 for patients who:

  • have no teeth, or have teeth that can no longer be saved
  • have enough bone along the whole jaw, including the back
  • have a strong bite, clench their teeth or have a wider dental arch
  • want a fixed solution with more points of support
  • are unhappy with the stability of a full or partial denture

Whether All-on-6 or All-on-4 suits you better is decided by the dentist after a clinical examination and analysis of the diagnostic images, assessing anatomy, bone quantity and quality, implant distribution, the bite and your individual treatment plan.

In our surgery

What the treatment includes

All-on-6 treatment at our clinic includes six Neodent implants, six abutments and a temporary fixed bridge.

A temporary fixed bridge is included in the initial package. When primary implant stability and clinical conditions allow, it can be fitted for the healing phase; the timing and the interim solution are agreed in your individual treatment plan. After healing, the final restoration is made in composite / acrylic or zirconia-ceramic. Which final restoration suits you is recommended by the dentist after the examination.

Implant positions are planned together with the future shape of the bridge. Where clinically indicated, CBCT imaging on our CS 8200 3D unit allows more detailed planning of the implant procedure.

More supports

Six implants along the arch share the chewing load between more points.

Planned around your bite

Implant layout is matched to the shape of the arch and the future bridge.

What is the difference between All-on-4 and All-on-6?

Both concepts share the same goal — fixed teeth on a full arch supported by implants. They differ in the number of implants and in how the load is distributed across the bone. Neither is universally "better": the choice depends on anatomy, bone quantity and quality, implant distribution, the bite and the individual treatment plan.

Fixed or removable?

Besides a fixed bridge, a toothless jaw can also be restored with a removable denture that clips onto implants. All of these options are available at our clinic — they differ in stability, maintenance and the extent of treatment.

All-on-6 / All-on-4

A fixed bridge attached to implants.

  • Not removed at home
  • Does not cover the palate
  • Requires thorough cleaning under the bridge

Denture on 4 implants

A removable denture secured on four implants.

  • Much more stable than a conventional denture
  • Taken out for cleaning
  • More affordable than a fixed bridge

Denture on 2 implants

A removable denture secured on two implants.

  • The fewest implants
  • Better retention than a denture without implants
  • Taken out for cleaning

The most suitable solution depends on your bone, bite, wishes and ability to maintain it — we discuss this at your consultation.

Procedure

What does All-on-6 treatment involve?

  1. Consultation and diagnostics

Examination, medical history and diagnostic imaging, including a 3D CBCT scan where indicated. We assess the anatomical and prosthetic conditions for a six-implant plan.

  2. Plan and choice of concept

Together we decide between All-on-6, All-on-4 or an implant-retained denture, and on the final restoration.

  3. Placing six implants

Under local anaesthesia, teeth that cannot be saved are removed and the implants are placed.

  4. Temporary fixed bridge

When primary implant stability and clinical conditions allow, it is attached to the abutments; the timing is agreed in the treatment plan.

  5. Healing period

The bone bonds with the implants; check-ups and a softer diet follow.

  6. Final restoration

Impressions, try-in and fitting of the composite / acrylic or zirconia-ceramic bridge, with a bite check.

Benefits

Benefits of All-on-6

More points of support

The load is distributed across six implants.

Fixed teeth

The bridge is not removed at home and does not move when eating or speaking.

Support along the arch

Implants spread across the jaw also support the back teeth.

No palate coverage

In the upper jaw the bridge does not cover the palate like a full denture.

Temporary bridge in the package

A temporary fixed bridge is included in the initial package; its timing is set in the treatment plan.

Choice of final restoration

Composite / acrylic or zirconia-ceramic, as recommended by the dentist.

Realistic expectations

  • Six implants need enough bone; an additional procedure is sometimes required.
  • Surgery is more extensive than for All-on-4, and treatment time depends on the case.
  • The bridge needs thorough daily cleaning and regular check-ups.

Duration and recovery

Duration and recovery

Implant placement
One longer appointment per arch
Anaesthesia
Local
Swelling and discomfort
Usually a few days to a week
Softer diet
Throughout the healing period
Final restoration
After healing — usually several months later

Swelling and discomfort are expected after the procedure and usually settle within a few days with cold compresses and prescribed medication. For the first days we recommend rest, liquid and soft foods, and avoiding smoking and exertion.

The time until the final restoration depends on bone quality and on whether bone grafting or a sinus lift was needed.

Procedure and recovery times depend on the individual case; you receive an exact timeline with your treatment plan.

Results and maintenance

Results and maintenance

The final bridge is shaped to your face, lips and bite. The aim is stable chewing, clear speech and natural-looking teeth.

How long the restoration lasts depends on daily hygiene and regular check-ups. Inflammation around implants can develop without pain, so regular examinations are the only reliable way to catch it early.

Caring for All-on-6

  • Brushing twice a day and cleaning under the bridge with interdental brushes or a water flosser
  • Check-ups and professional cleaning as recommended by your dentist
  • Follow-up X-rays of the bone around the implants
  • Not smoking
  • A night guard if you clench or grind your teeth

Is All-on-6 better than All-on-4?

Neither concept is better in general. All-on-6 has more points of support but needs more bone; All-on-4 is often possible with less bone at the back of the jaw. The decision depends on anatomy, bone quantity and quality, implant distribution, the bite and the individual treatment plan.

What is included in the All-on-6 price?

The initial package includes six Neodent implants, six abutments and a temporary fixed bridge. The definitive restoration (composite / acrylic or zirconia-ceramic) is charged in addition, according to the material chosen.

Will I need bone grafting for All-on-6?

Not necessarily. If diagnostics show favourable conditions at the planned sites, an additional procedure may not be needed. If bone is lacking, an additional procedure or a different concept such as All-on-4 may be considered.

How many appointments are needed?

Typically: an examination and diagnostics, implant placement, fitting of the temporary bridge when conditions allow, check-ups during healing and several appointments to make and fit the final restoration. The exact number depends on your treatment plan.

Can I eat normally with All-on-6?

After healing and fitting of the final restoration, most patients eat a varied diet. During healing a softer diet is needed so the implants are not overloaded.

How long does a bridge on implants last?

With good hygiene and regular check-ups, implants and the bridge can last for many years. Their lifespan cannot be guaranteed because it depends on maintenance, general health, smoking and chewing forces.
